Kathleen A. Blanchette 1945-2023


Kathleen A. Blanchette, 78, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at CareOne in Northampton after a short stay. Kathy was born in Holyoke on June 2, 1945, a daughter of the late Thomas and Claire (McCarthy) Griffin where she was raised and educated.

She was predeceased by her sister, Claire McCloskey. Kathy was a 1963 graduate of St. Jerome High School in Holyoke. She worked for 43 years at Stop and Shop Supermarkets as a payroll clerk retiring in 2009. She loved spending time with family, most especially her beloved husband of 56 years, Paul “Butch” Blanchette. Together they enjoyed playing cards, Keno, going on cruises to multiple islands, but her favorite trip was to Ireland. In addition to her beloved husband, she leaves behind her two daughters, Lori Carey of Chesterfield and Jennifer Blanchette of Easthampton and her two adored grandchildren, Meaghan (Dakota) and John (Emma). Kathy is survived by her brother, Jack Griffin and his wife Karen of Holyoke and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She now enters eternal rest and peace accompanying her son-in-law, William Carey who died unexpectedly hours earlier. The family would like to thank the staff at the CareOne Elm Unit for their wonderful care and compassion.


Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant St., Easthampton and conclude with a funeral home service at 1:00PM. If friends desire, memorial donations in Kathy’s name may be made to: Special Olympics Massachusetts OR a charity of one’s choice.
