Lucy Claire Henchey 1933-2025

Lucy Claire Henchey, 92, of Southampton passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025. Lucy was born on January 28, 1933, in Easthampton, MA, the daughter of Alfred Briere and Rose Leduc Briere. Lucy attended Notre Dame School in Easthampton and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Lucy married James Henchey in 1961 and they enjoyed a very happy life together in Easthampton until his passing in 1994.


Lucy was known for her keen wit and wonderful sense of humor. She could find something to laugh about in almost any situation. Lucy was also the unofficial family historian and loved sharing old family stories, especially those that were humorous. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed getting together often for coffee and conversation. She loved being with her family for holidays and special celebrations. Lucy loved music and played the piano and the accordion. During her 20’s, she played accordion in a musical trio with her sister and a friend. She was a talented seamstress and knitter as well as an avid reader. She loved her weekly visits to Salon Advantages where she enjoyed the company of her beloved hairstylist Kim and many other friends there. Lucy is survived by her daughter Marie (Michael) Demarey of Southampton.


She was predeceased by her son Philip in 2020. She is survived by her 5 loving grandchildren, Brittany (Stephan) Manley, Kevin McNeil, Daniel (Emily) Henchey, Katy (Angel Rivera) Henchey, and Sam Henchey. Lucy also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren, Amelia Henchey, Weston and Caden Manley, and Astraea Rivera. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Lucy was the last survivor of 12 siblings and was predeceased by her sisters Doris Sawyer, Margaret, Theresa, and Anne, as well as her brothers Alfred, Eugene, Lucien, Roland, Raymond, Richard, and Adrien.


Calling hours will be Thursday April 10th from 5-7PM at the Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant Street in Easthampton. Her funeral service will be held Friday, April 11th, at the funeral home beginning at 9AM, followed by Mass at Our Lady of the Valley Church at 10:00AM her burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Easthampton.
