Shirley N. (LeClair) LaValley, 90, died on Wednesday August 9, 2023, in Worcester at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. Born on August 15, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Edith (Longto) LeClair.
Shirley grew up in Holyoke and was a graduate of Precious Blood High School. She met Norman LaValley at a dance at Mountain Park. They were married on Nov. 20, 1954, and celebrated 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. They lived and raised their family in Easthampton. Shirley worked for 31 years at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in the Medical Records Department. Shirley belonged to the Easthampton Women’s Bowling League and also loved to play bingo, card games, Uno, and Yahtzee. An animal lover, Shirley cared for many dogs, most recently her constant companion Jade.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her beloved family; daughter Maureen Laprade of Worcester; son Steven and his wife Alicia LaValley of Palm Coast, FL and Easthampton; grandchildren Matthew and his wife Devon Laprade of Upton; Cpt. Craig and his wife Andrea Laprade of Appling, GA; Melanie and her husband Matthew DeMinico of Newton, NH. Shirley was a great grandmother to Maya Summers, Oliver and Lucas Laprade, Adeline and Callahan DeMinico, step great granddaughter Sydney Fossati and her daughters Scarlett and Stella along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Alison Laprade Summers and her brother Bernard LeClair.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 9:30 - 10:30AM at the Boucher- O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant St., Easthampton. Her Funeral Mass will be at 11:00AM in Our Lady of the Valley Parish. Burial to follow in St. Brigid’s Cemetery in Easthampton.
